FAQ

Questions, answered.

Plans, privacy, AI, hosting and deletion — in plain language. Still unsure? Email hello@paperorg.com.

Do uploads roll over?
No. Unused monthly uploads expire at the end of each month.
What happens when I reach 50 documents?
You can keep all 50 forever. To add more, remove a few documents or upgrade — your AI questions still work as normal.
Is AI still available on the free plan?
Yes. Free includes 3 AI questions every month. You never lose access to asking PaperOrg about your papers.
What happens if I downgrade to Free or cancel a paid plan?
You keep full access until the end of the period you already paid for. After that you move to Free: your 50 most recent documents stay active. Anything above 50 is kept safely (still encrypted) for a 30-day grace period, and we email you before anything happens. If you don’t re-subscribe or remove documents to get back under 50, the surplus is permanently deleted after the grace period. You can export everything at any time, including before you downgrade.
Can you read my files? Who can see them?
We’re honest about this: PaperOrg is encrypted at rest and in transit, but it is not zero-knowledge. To read, name and organize your documents, our system and the AI it uses must process the contents — so technically we can see your files, like a trusted assistant would. Team access is kept tight and limited, and your family members only see what you choose to share.
Do you use my documents to train AI?
No. We never use your documents to train AI, and OpenAI does not train its models on your API content. OpenAI retains API content only briefly for abuse monitoring before deleting it. You can review and edit every result.
Where is my data hosted?
Your documents are stored on European infrastructure, and PaperOrg is built and run from Luxembourg. Some providers (for example the AI that reads your documents) may process data outside the EEA under recognised safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Is my data really deleted when I delete it?
Deleting a document moves it to Trash, where you can restore it for 14 days; after that it’s permanently deleted. Encrypted backups roll off within 90 days. You can also close your account from Settings → Privacy — we purge your account data within 30 days, except records the law requires us to keep longer (such as billing).
Is my family’s private stuff hidden from other members?
Yes. You choose which papers are shared with your household and which stay private. A member’s private documents are never visible to anyone else in the family — only shared documents are.
What happens if PaperOrg shuts down?
Your paperwork is yours, and there’s no lock-in. You can export everything as a ZIP at any time, so you’re never trapped. We’d give you notice and a window to download your documents before anything was switched off.
Is PaperOrg GDPR-compliant?
PaperOrg is built and run from Luxembourg with EU data protection as a core requirement. You can access, export, correct or erase your data at any time from Settings → Privacy, we never sell or rent your data, and you can lodge a complaint with Luxembourg’s data-protection authority (CNPD). See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Can I get my documents out?
Always. You can export all of your documents as a ZIP at any time, including if you downgrade or close your account.
